Paddy grew up in the west Dublin suburb of Ballyfermot
affectionally known as Ballyer. I was born in the north Dublin
suburb of Whitehall. It is quite amazing the amount of
talented people these two areas produced. From Ballyer, The
Fureys, The Beer Mats and of course Paddy. From Whitehall,
Luke Kelly and a whole host of International footballers.
Paddy like myself was "Luke mad" and it's difficult to
describe the feeling to anyone who was not. Paddy would wince
at the suggestion that he was Luke's natural successor, but I
make no apology for feeling the way I do about him or his
wonderful voice.
Paddy started his career as a solo artist and then went on to
become a member of several Irish ballad groups including
Heather Breeze and Stout. He then spent eight very successful
years with Barleycorn before joining The Dublin City Ramblers
for whom he played for about fourteen years. In 1996,
following a realignment of the group, Paddy really came into
his own and along with The Ramblers entertained people all
over the world. In late 2002 Paddy once again started
performing as a solo artist and will continue to bring
happiness to Irish music lovers, everywhere he sings.
Paddy has received many awards in various American States and
a little while ago, at a special night in his native
Ballyfermot was honoured for his achievements and service to
Irish music. From Ballyer to Baltimore, no one deserved it
more. Paddy has stepped in and played with other well known
bands and never fails to bring the house down.
Paddy goes from strength to strength, heading off to Alaska
and Hong Kong and opening new radio stations in Dublin as well
as regular gigs all over Dublin.
